St. Paul Johnson High School’s Long Tradition Of Badminton

DYAN HOCKEY, EDEN PRAIRIE FOOTBALL, AND OTHER TEAMS THAT HAVE MADE A HABIT OUT OF
WINNING. ONE OTHER TEAM HAS THE RIGHT TO BEEN THE LIST. IF YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT SAINT PAUL JOHNSON BADMITTEN, WE ARE HERE TO CHANGE THAT. Reporter: THERE’S A SENSE OF PRIDE WITH THE UNIFORM, AND A RESPONSIBILITY. THERE’S A LOT OF PRESSURE BECAUSE WE HAVE WON CONSECUTIVELY SO MANY YEARS. HAVING THAT PRESSURE ON US, WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE WE WIN AND KEEP THE TRADITION GOING ON. IT’S ONE THING WHERE WE ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER TO STEP IT UP TO KEEP IT GOING, AND IT’S A THING WE P WANT TO HOLD
ON TO. Reporter: JOHNSON HAS WON FIVE OUT OF THE LAST SIX STATE
TITLES. AND ONCE AGAIN THEY ARE THE DEFENDING CHAMPS. THE ONE YEAR THEY DIDN’T WIN IT, THEY HAD AN UNDEFEATED REGULAR SEASON AND LOST IN THE SEMIFINALS. THAT STILL BURNS. MARK HAS BEEN AN ASSISTANT SINCE 2007, AND NOW THIS IS HIS FIFTH SEASON AS A HEAD COACH. OUR PROGRAM IS BUILT ON THE BELIEF THAT YOU PLAY EVERY BIRDIE LIKE IT’S DECIDING THE
MATCH. WE PUSH OURSELVES EVERY PLAY, EVERY SECOND WE ARE OUT THERE. Reporter: IT’S A CULTURE WHERE SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS AND KIDS WHO WANT TO BE A PART OF THAT, MEANING A DEEPER TALENT POOL. THERE’S 50 TO 75 GIRLS ONLY OUT EACH YEAR, AND IT’S GREAT. THEY WANT TO PLAY COMPETITIVE
SPORTS. Reporter: THE STATE TOURNAMENT IS NEXT SATURDAY, AND JOHNSON IS EXPECTING NOTHING LESS THAN A STATE
TITLE. WE ARE HOPING TO GET FIRST,
